Maybe the reservoir was built with a radius of one-quarter mile and you simply stumbled across the natural relationship between radius and circumference.

i know this post is years old, but i really liked it. good for you doing crossfit 6 months! i just started. I found your comments humorous and not without truth on a lot of crossfitters getting all "culty" about it. I like the community, and the community is a great thing for exchanging ideas and encouragement and motivation. on the extreme end i find it highly ironic that, unfortunately, so many crossfitters get all egotistical about it being the greatest thing ever, or Glassman's (crossfit founder) gift to mankind, bestowed upon him by God...i hyperbolize. I find it ironic because over and over again, in many of the articles, and what the main crossfit site says itself, is that its goal is to be all inclusive and open to new ideas. I believe they do this for the most part. But it's still funny to me that people get all "clique-y" about it, but I guess thats human nature.

I served in the submarine force during the Cold War but I was on vacation cruises compared to what Gene and his crew went through. I read his book, Thunder Below, and was awed by what he did and the way he did it. I wish I could have served with him but I am not sure I would have had the courage and stamina to face and overcome what he and his crew went through.

Rest in Peace Gene. You did yourself, your ship and your country proud

My name is Maria Nasti and I am the daughter of Vittorio Nasti. I recently found this article and was surprised. Didn't know when this happened or when the drink was named after my Dad.

I appreciate the article and wanted to thank you.

Sincerely,

Maria Nasti

Try bouldering. It's fun, not very destructive to your knees, and it's a great core workout. Plenty of really great places in NYC as well, and there's always the boulders at Central Park if you want to enjoy the outdoors (just get a crashpad for that).

Rock climbing? There are a bunch of climbing walls in the city, and an endless series of high-drama real world challenges.

No idea how CrossFit would fit in there, of course.

I'd suggest going for the Assault on Mt. Mitchell. A century where the last 30 miles or so are all uphill, with the worst saved for the end.
